On a day-to-day basis, veterinary medical office assistants will be greeting patients and their owners, answering phone calls, making appointments, processing payments, light filing work, processing payments, using copy machines, fax machines, and printers, and helping move animals to and from examination rooms. Caring and empathetic are two very important traits for any veterinary medical office assistant to possess. As this position is more likely to interact with both patient’s families and the technicians and veterinarians, they need to be both professional and compassionate. The need to handle tough situations appropriately but still offer comfort and stability to families is imperative. A veterinary medical office assistant must also be comfortable working with animals.
